SUPPORT? GOOD JOKE!
It is immensely stressful having a bully as your leader or a colleague...I know all too well the incessant strategizing you have to do to anticipate the next move they will make to emotionally torture you.
It is made exponentially worse by the harsh reality that the person bullying you may be the escalation point for you when you inevitably run into challenges in your job. That is the point of a leader, to be available for support, problem-solving, busting through barriers and helping their direct reports achieve success.
Not possible with a bully as your leader. The reality is that if you bring an issue to them for support, it will be used against you. They do not understand the concept of "seeking to understand" or support. Upon hearing about an issue, they move directly into blame, emotionally charged discussions where you will be forced to detail every move you have made leading up to the discussion with the leader and it will all be used against you.
As if that's not bad enough, the bully will start setting meetings with everyone under the sun and you will be placed in an awkward position to answer questions outside the scope of your work and blamed for EVERYTHING that has happened in the last six months (or longer) regarding the issue you brought to their attention. Every decision you made, every work product you delivered, every communication with teammates will come under scrutiny and you will be forced to endure rapid-style question and answer sessions where you will be found guilty of any number of ridiculous claims the bully makes about your "wrongdoings".
Your professional life will be non-existent until the bully has found all the goods on you to make this issue your fault and to use it against you for weeks or even months and they may even include it on a PIP or your annual review.
This isn't normal, abundant, strong leadership. This is abuse at work and it is exhausting and harmful. Please schedule a call with me today to seek support through WBP - I can and will help you.
