IT'S A NON-NEGOTIABLE!
Gosh, it's dark times when I need to write posts indicating that YELLING and raised voices is inappropriate at work.
But...this is where we are, and so I guess even the most basic forms of professional etiquette need to be covered because unhinged and emotionally unwell maniacal abusive bullies need to hear the message.
So, I'll say it louder and with more clarity for those in the back: it is not appropriate, in any work setting, to raise your voice, yell, scream, bark or speak in anything other than a respectful tone.
Healthy individuals understand that you may be speaking about a topic that is deeply important to you and you may have a bit of PASSION in your voice.
Okay, *sigh*.
Passion is fine. Passion is excitement about a topic! It is about having ENERGY about a project and sharing that in an excited way.
Passionate communication is entirely different than someone who is yelling at someone in a belittling way to make them feel bad, to gain compliance from them, to shame them, to prove a point, etc., etc.
Anyone reading this who doesn't understand the difference between passionate (speaking in an excited way in a positive manner about a topic that is interesting, intriguing, fun, etc.) and barking in a negative manner toward another person...is likely a bully.
If someone yells, barks, raises their voice, screams, howls, bellows, or anything of the sort at you or at someone else at work, you have the right to tell that person that you expect respectful communication and you'll be happy to continue the discussion when they can speak in a calm, respectful manner. Until that time, the discussion is CLOSED.
