FAUX AUTHORITY!
There are dozens of traits, behaviors and characteristics that reveal you are working with an imposter leader. I will continue to highlight them over time because it's a critical skill to learn if you want to know where bullying is bred and toxicity lives and thrives.
One blatant behavior that is an imposter leader giveaway every single time is when your leader uses phrases that overtly asserts their power, like "You have to listen to me, I'm the one in charge" or "I've been here for almost 20 years, I know the way things work around here and not you."
When you hear these types of phrases, it's good news and bad news.
The good news is that now you know what kind of person you are dealing with - you have a clear indicator this person feels deeply threatened and has to use very direct and imposing language because they feel the need to suppress you in order to lift themselves up (haha, that's not how it works in reality!). These leaders do not have the respect from others or the ability to naturally influence through their skills and so they use fear-based language in order to achieve their desperate need for power and control.
The bad news - repeat the above paragraph.
You are likely working with an imposter leader. True leaders don't need to throw their weight around and talk like this because they are respected and lead by example rather than through fear and intimidation.
Look around your workplace - are your colleagues happy? Are there bullies among you? Are YOU being bullied? How do you feel on Sunday evening, knowing you have to go to work on Monday and work with your leader and colleagues?
Answer honestly. How do those answers make you feel?
